As most of you will know, last Saturday I embarked on an epic three-day Newell Highway Road Trip to relocate from Melbourne to Brisbane. I had the best of intentions really I did – I googled my daily route and new exactly where to stop for the best photo ops and early morning walks, hell, I even wrote a post about whether or not the inland drive was actually even touristy and not just a flat expanse of monotonous bitumen as popular discourse would have you believe.
Well, turns out pop. discourse is onto something: The Newell Highway really is a flat expanse of monotonous bitumen punctuated with a few scenic Australiana vistas and some roadkill. Oh and coffee stops, lots and lots of coffee stops (and I don’t even drink coffee but when in Rome)! Nonetheless in the rare moments I wasn’t fearing for my life due to a potentially lethal mix of torrential tsunami-like downpour (like I mean, for two days straight), pot-holes the size of Jupiter (I don’t know where our tax-payer money is going but it isn’t going to the Newell), a fear of being tail-gated by gigantic road-trains or over-taking said road-trains, I did manage to take some lovely little snaps of the scenery and occasional attractions. Enjoy x
