It’s not hard for die-hard fromage lovers to fall in love with The Limes Hotel – it’s exterior looks like a giant block of Swiss Cheese! Except, for obvious reasons, it’s not a giant block of Swiss Cheese, but rather it is black and made of bricks and mortar and houses a neat little boutique hotel in the heart of Brisbane’s most popular nightlife precinct, Fortitude Valley.  Even though The Limes Hotel was one of Australia’s first member’s of Design Hotels some six years ago, it hasn’t been the first to lose it’s edge. In fact, this 21-room glorious feast for the eyes isn’t just unique on the outside, it’s pretty interesting on the inside too.

The hotel rooms suggest an ethos focused on the beautiful basics, with design and functionality top priority. This isn’t a place for interior frills and frippery, but that doesn’t mean the vibe here isn’t stylish on the whole. From the kitchenette doubling as a work-station to the bigger-than-average bathrooms, there’s a sixth sense about what their discerning travellers truly want, and what’s okay to do away with.  Three rooms on the ground floor have small courtyards out the back with hammocks perfect for afternoon siestas and all other rooms have a balcony to let the fresh-air in. But perhaps the real highlight is the hotel’s popular Rooftop Bar, also home to a 30-seat cinema playing old favourites on Wednesday and Thursday nights. The bar, which has sweeping views of Brisbane, serves up cocktails daily and often draws the cool kids out to play on the weekend.
